The Delights Of Souk Shopping
Anyone who visits Egypt must do three things which all other tourists have done for ages. The first is to check out the Pyramids of Giza. The second is to cruise the Nile River. The third is to shop in the colourful souks of the country.
A souk is a market or bazaar which sells all sorts of items that would make any avid shopper swoon with delight. In an Egyptian souk , you can buy stuff like cotton t-shirts, bed sheets, towels, spices, jewellery, glass bottles, water pipes, art works, and other exotic things which you have likely never seen before. The best thing about the shopping, though, is the fact that you can haggle with the merchants until you get the items you want at the prices that you are willing to pay.
So when you go into a souk, take your time and walk around first in order for you to get a better look at the variety of stuff that the various stalls and vendors are selling. Identify the things you want, but do not seem too eager to get the items. Play it coy and cool so that you can bargain with the merchant until he agrees to sell you the item for the price you want or, if not, allow you to purchase it at a considerable discount. So that the vendor would be more willing to give you discounted prices, make sure that you buy a lot of stuff from his store since this would make him more agreeable to giving you a great deal.
